Description
It is not easy to create an orderly chronology of the kingdoms that succeeded each other between the 6th and 18th centuries in the geographic area that is now divided into four nations: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. These kingdoms sometimes overlapped, other times they mixed, and on other occasions, they entered into conflict and/or alternated in their hegemony over vast portions of territory.
The photographic collection I am proposing is a selection of the most beautiful photos I have taken at various archaeological sites and ruined, sometimes abandoned, locations. The photos do not claim to have academic value. Rather, they are a visual narrative of some traces of what the following kingdoms once were:
- Kingdom of Lavo (6th century – 1388 CE, merged into the Kingdom of Ayutthaya);
- Kingdom of Ngoenyang (7th century – 1292 CE);
- Kingdom of Hariphunchai (7th century – 1290 CE);
- Khmer Empire (802 CE – 1431 CE);
- Kingdom of Sukhothai (1238 CE – 1438 CE, merged into the Kingdom of Ayutthaya);
- Kingdom of Lanna (1292 CE – 1776 CE);
- Kingdom of Ayutthaya (1351 CE – 1767 CE).
Descrizione
Non è facile fare una cronistoria ordinata dei regni che si sono avvicendati tra il VI e il XVIII sec. nell’area geografica che oggi è suddivisa in quattro nazioni: Thailandia, Laos, Cambogia e Myanmar. Tali regni talvolta si sono sovrapposti, altre volte si sono mescolati e in altre occasioni sono entrati in conflitto e/o avvicendati l’egemonia su vaste porzioni di territorio.
La raccolta fotografica che propongo è un estratto delle foto che ritengo più belle tra quelle che ho scattato nei diversi siti archeologici e nei luoghi in rovina, talvolta bbandonati. Le foto non pretendono di avere un valore di tipo accademico. Più semplicemente sono un racconto per immagini di alcune tracce di quello che furono i seguenti regni:
- Regno di Lavo (VI sec. 1388 d.C. – confluito nel Regno di Ayutthaya);
- Regno di Ngoenyang (VII sec. – 1292 d.C.);
- Regno di Hariphunchai (VII sec. – 1290 d.C.);
- Impero Khmer (802 d.C. – 1431 d.C.);
