Story
Australia is where I truly began to develop a passion for photography.
2011 was my third trip to Australia, and I focused photographically on Sydney, the city that had hosted me for such a long time in 2000 and again in 2006. What interested me in this third approach to the city were the people, whom I had almost completely excluded from my view during previous trips centered on the beauty of the wild nature and the desolate landscapes of much of the country.
Sydney in 2011 was still a true melting pot of people from all over the world; the “monopolization” of the city by Asians hadn’t happened yet. Every young person who arrived in Sydney was looking for a new life or an adventure in a place that was as beautiful as it was vibrant, youthful, and seemingly free. This mix of ingredients at that time was clearly, to me, the human foundation of the city, where the inhabitants were called Sydneysiders.
I wasn’t interested in creating a photographic project, but rather in capturing moments that would become part of my memory in that city, which had started to fascinate me at the age of 19 and which I had loved so much.

L’Australia è il luogo nel quale iniziai davvero ad appassionarmi allo strumento fotografico.
Il 2011 era il mio terzo viaggio in Australia e mi concentrai fotograficamente su Sydney, la città che mi aveva ospitato per tanto tempo nel 2000 e nuovamente nel 2006.
Quello che mi interessava in questo terzo approccio alla città erano le persone che invece avevo quasi del tutto escluso dal mio sguardo nei viaggi precedenti incentrati sulla bellezza della natura selvaggia e sui paesaggi desolati di gran parte del paese.
Sydney ancora nel 2011 era una vera miscela di persone provenienti da ogni parte del mondo, non c’era ancora stata la “monopolizzazione” della città da parte degli asiatici. Ogni giovane che approdava a Sydney cercava una nuova vita o un’avventura in un luogo che era tanto bello quanto effervescente, giovanile e apparentemente libero. Questa miscela di ingredienti di quel tempo era per me chiaro essere la base umana della città nella quale gli abitanti venivano nominati Sydneysiders.
Non mi interessava fare un lavoro fotografico ma solo catturare momenti che per me sarebbero diventati parte della mia memoria in quella città che mi aveva iniziato ad affascinare già a 19 anni e che tanto avevo amato.
